Professional Position:

 

1998 to Present: Partner, NPT LLP, Chartered Accountants, a full service public accounting and business advisory firm. Mr. Wetstein provides assistance to a wide range of private business and professional clients in the areas of business management and organization. Providing advice on the appropriate use of corporations and trusts results in tax effective organizational structures for clients. Comprehensive financial reporting allows for effective tax, estate, succession and financial planning.

A recognized expert advisor to clients in the health-care industry, Mr. Wetstein has also acted as consultant to the Ontario Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association, Ontario Dental Association and other organizations representing health-care professionals. He regularly serves as an instructor and seminar leader for professional organizations including the Ontario Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry on the subject of profitable practice management.

Services to clients also include providing assistance with the organization of new business enterprises, corporate financing and tax effective business structures for the owner-manager. Mr. Wetstein performs efficiency reviews and provides assistance with business valuation, purchase and sale due diligence reviews and negotiations. He has provided dispute resolution services on referral from various organizations, including the Ontario Medical Association. Having been certified as an expert witness, he has provided litigation support on matters related to the valuation of professional practices and related organizational matters.

  • 1987 to 1998: Partner, KPMG, a national accounting firm. Mr. Wetstein served as Chairman of the firm’s National Health-Care Professionals Group assisting health-care clients nationally.
  • 1978 to 1987: Senior Partner, Davies Wetstein & Co, Chartered Accountants, a public accounting firm co-founded by Mr. Wetstein in 1978 and merged with KPMG in 1987.

  • Mr. Wetstein’s articles on practice management, valuation, income tax, and financial and estate planning have appeared in various publications including, Physicians Management Manual, Strategy, the Ontario Medical Review and the newsletters of various professional organizations. He is the past editor of Fiscal Fitness a newsletter that was published for health-care professionals.
  • 1990 to 1992 Mr. Wetstein regularly appeared for interviews on each of the weekly television series Your Wealth and Money In The Bank produced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
